2020

The 4th edition of the Action on Asbestos Trophy went ahead on 20th June 2020. Due to Covid-19 it was as Rothesay Golf Club members only event.

On 20th of March given the expected UK goverment anouncment on Covid-19 we announced, “It’s with heavy heart, we need to share with you the 2020 edition of the Action on Asbestos Trophy has been cancelled.”

However on 13th June 2020, as a result of changes in goverment policy, Rothesay Golf Club made the following announcement

“Next weekend we are now looking to start our proper competitive golf with the return of one of our biggest competitions,  The Clydeside Action on Asbestos Trophy.  Due to our current situation this will be a club only event this year instead of the usual Open.”

Despite having only 6 days to organise the event, 77 Rothesay Golf Club members signed up! Normally we’d expect about 110 players with visitors, and 6 months organisation so to have that number just from members is remarkable. Thanks so much for all who have organised it, especially Iain Simpson.

The 4th edition of the Action on Asbestos Trophy took place on 20th June 2020, and with £3 of each Rothesay Golf Club members’ entry going to Action on Asbestos – Industrial Injury & Disease, plus donations means despite everything, we are on track to hand around £500 to the charity.

A truly remarkable effort; we are grateful to all the players, committee, greenskeepers and members for making it, we are told, a great day.

Anyway, the results are in.  The winner this time around was Roy Bowie with 41 points in what was a sunny, windy day. Great scoring and massive congratulations to Roy. Following Roy, 39 points to both Iain McDonald and Gordon Whitelaw. Other notable mention to the 2019 champ making a valiant attempt at retaining his crown, Stuart Brady on 35, just 6 points back. Thanks again to you all for getting out there, it’s much appreciated.
