A field of over 90 players took to the sun soaked Rothesay Golf Club on June 3rd, to play in the 7th iteration of the Action on Asbestos Trophy in memory of William Bremner-Allison.

Kevin “Paddy” Queen with a brilliant 44 points was this years winner, meaning we’ve had 7 different winners since it’s inception in 2017. Unluckily losing out on BiH after an equally terrific 44 points was Ewan McTaggart. Christopher Derrick, visiting from Douglas Park Golf Club, shot a brilliant 39 points for 3rd spot. In 4th with 38 points was Craig Charker.

In the scratch contest, there was a 3 way tie with Malcolm Brown, Iain Simpson and Willie Glen all tying with Malky taking the trophy on the finest of margins on a countback. However, as a family we have agreed to have made and supply Willie and Iain with trophies too. 2 of those guys were prize winners out at the Port in the morning too, which given the blistering heat is a great effort.

It was another brilliant day for the charity with over £4,500 raised and to all those who sponsor holes, who offer up raffle prizes, who help me and the family make this day run smootly every year, I know Action on Asbestos are hugely grateful for the donations.

So for now take a look at the 2023 photo gallery, and we’ll look forward to seeing you for Year 8 in 2024, where we will smash past the £30000 mark raised which is a remarkable amount which makes the organisation worthwhile.

WBA Memorial Trophy In Support of Action on Asbestos

Since the inaugural WBA Memorial Trophy held on June 4th 2017 – the first anniversary of William’s death, the event has raised nearly £30,000 for the charity Action on Asbestos – Industrial Injury & Disease

On June 4th 2016 William Bremner-Allison died of Mesothelioma, an asbestos-related cancer. When he was diagnosed as terminally ill in January 2016, he sought and received a lot of assistance from Clydeside Action on Asbestos, a charity passionate about helping people who suffer from asbestos-related conditions.
